It was really windy out on the sand dunes and there were many people out riding horses for the afternoon, too. You could see the tracks from the dune buggies (quad bikes) that people ride around that area. Even though we were so close to such a major tourist spot, the area was still not very clean. The area where we got on the camels was almost like a garbage tip and the air was filled with the smoke of burning refuse. The city was just on the edge of the desert.
Riding the camels wasn't as difficult as we'd expected. They were bumpy, but not like the donkeys. It was more like a backward and forwards swaying motion. Sebastian's camel which was behind Jen's one must have had an itchy ear as it constantly tried rubbing it's head against anything it could, incl. Jen's leg and shoe, and saddle. They were funny creatures, though. One camel was constantly chewing on something, Dan's camel kept lowering it's head and Simon's one kept standing on three legs! When we got within a good view of the pyramids the guides happily took pictures of us so that we wouldn't have to dismount. It was definitely an experience to be had, though!
In the evening of that day we had our final group dinner in the restaurant of the Indiana Hotel, where we were staying. The last photo in this section is of this.
